Pope’s visit to U.K.

Sir,—The first visit of a Pope to England must be seen as an exceptionally well-timed move in light of the Falklands crisis. His pleas for world peace and, more specifically, an end to hostilities in the Falklands, if, as it seems, a little forlorn, can only biit strengthen peace moves with his considerable influence. This, coupled with his planned trip to the predominantly Roman Catholic Argentina soon, will press the military junta to sue for peace. That is, if Britain has not already, through military action, forced Argentina to press for a peaceful settlement. Pope John Paul II is a unique Pope with his endeavours to practise what he preaches in the world scene. — Yours, etc., N. G. WARD. May 30, 1982.
