League may be revived
A public meeting has been called to consider the revival of the Akaroa Progress League. The league, whose constitution was signed in 1948, would aim at helping the whole county as well as Akaroa, said the ' Akaroa County chairman, Mr T. J. Brocherie. He s asked the council for approval to call the meeting for June 11. A number of people in the county would like to be involved. he told the council. Tourism was playing a big part in the county and the public should have a say in the direction it was taking. The development of tourism would play an important role in the economy of the county. The Progress League went into recess about 10 years ago and there has been some difficulty finding the league's records.
