Labour policy

Sir, — The harsh experience of two world wars destroys the piety of Mr G. Coster’s argument (“The Press," May 27). Contrary to what Mr Coster says, N.A.T.G. is the Western world’s shield in the northern hemisphere and A.N.Z.U.S. the equivalant in the southern hemisphere. New Zealand is'in itself a rich prize for an aggressor and the proximity to the mineral rich Antarctica makes it more so to any would-be predator. As for the Falkland Islands, the war there has not run its course and awesome consequences of that conflict have yet to be experienced. — Yours, etc.,

J. TAYLOR. May 28, 1982.
