Pamphlet

Sir,—Recently, The Health Alternatives for Women distributed a pamphlet outside a city college to departing girl students. The pamphlet is grossly misleading and an incitement to promiscuity. It implies that the killing of a child in the womb is an acceptable alternative to adoption and

merely a matter of choice, and states that abortion is safe and that there is no risk of sterility ignoring the fact that nearly 10 per cent of all women will never conceive again. Members of T.H.A.W. are entitled to hold their own views but should not be free to spread their views among school children in total disregard of the rights of parents. As a concerned parent with a daughter at college 1 would like to know if the City Council will uphold parents’ rights and protect young girls at other colleges from the attention of T.H.A.W. by prohibiting the distribution of this pamphlet outside city colleges. — Yours, etc., K. ORR May 13, 1982.

fMr J. H. Gray. General Manager and Town Clerk, replies: “No permission was given by the council for the distribution of pamphlets on the occasion described by your correspondent. As a result of the complaint, a letter was sent to the organisation on May 7, pointing out the terms of the by-law."]
