Dreary encounter
Admiral Lodge Checkers beat its arch-rival, Mathews Mairehau, 49-37, in the main game of the Cooper Henderson women’s division one basketball competition at Cowles Stadium on Saturday. The game, which was the curtain-raiser to the National League encounter, was drearv in the first half, but brightened in the second when Checkers showed skill and determination after strong words from the coach, Russ Berry, at half-time. Aranui and C.C.L. University battled away with Aranui winning the match in the last few
minutes. 30-25. Hagley played its best basketball of the season to down Continental Caterers,, Rangiora. 46-41. After six rounds Checkers and Aranui are unbeaten with five wins each and will meet next Saturday. Mairehau. Rangiora, Hagley, and University have two wins each. Rebels have yet to win a game.
