New film plan for Bounty?
PA Whangarei A film director intends to fly to New Zealand from Britain soon to discuss the use of the replica of the’ sailing ship Bounty in another film. According to the representative of the Bounty’s owner, Mr Mac McGuire, the director is expected to arrive in New Zealand in eight to 10 days. Mr McGuire declined to name the director but said it was “highly unlikely” that the Bounty would leave Whangarei before August.
The further stay .in port follows the cancellation of a proposed trip to Panama, where the Bounty was to have been used in a film by the American film-maker, Dino de Laurentis. Mr McGuire said that in spite of the bitter disappointment of the 18-member crew after the cancellation, morale was now "exceptionally high.” The crew would remain in the ship until the sails had been taken down and other work had been completed. A nucleus of the crew would remain on board after that.
