Bond purchase restraints urged

•PA Dunedin Individuals should be allowed to buy only $lOOO worth of inflation-adjusted bonds each year, the National Party's OtagoSouthland divisional conference decided yesterday. Delegates supported an Invercargill remit restricting the number of bonds per person to 5000 with a maximum purchase of 1000 in any one year. . Speakers in favour of the proposal criticised the effect the bonds were having on the private loan finance market and on the availability of funds for business lending

and growth.

The conference unanimously supported a Dunedin North remit aimed at ensuring the continuation of the Otago Medical School. It also supported a remit from Clutha delegates seeking relief for the. singleincome family, by dividing the one income and taxing the amounts separately. This would result in a tax saving, especially for lowincome earners. The conference rejected a Dunedin Central remit which sought a two-year provisional driving licence and “L” plates.
