Nuclear weapons

Sir,—H. F. Newman (May 18) calls my suggested reference, Gittihgs’ and McCormack’s “Crisis in Korea,” first published by the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation, England, “Russian propaganda.” His source. “World Book,” is a good children’s encylopaedia published by Field Enterprises Educational Foundation,, which charts, as he says, the course of the Korean War from June 25, 1950, but does not discuss the causes, the South’s yearearlier attacks on the North (such as Admiral Lee Yong Win’s on the military harbour at Monggump'o) or the massive unrest, strikes, rebellions, guerrilla attacks and desertion by whole Army battalions which expressed the South’s dissatisfaction when America imposed the unwanted Syngman Rhee on them. One has to concede America is the world’s worst

warmonger. But this correspondence is about nuclear weapons and I hope Mr Newman will join all caring New Zealanders in opposing their invention, manufacture, stockpiling and use. — Yours, etc., SUSAN TAYLOR. May 19, 1982.
