Good displays by divers

The pressure of the highly rated Mark Graham, already an approved member of the New Zealand diving team for the Brisbane Commonwealth Games, seemed to have inspired Gary Lamb, another diver who is pressing hard for inclusion, to a top performance in a Games diving trial at Queen Elizabeth II Park pool yesterday.

One of the national swimming selectors, Mr L. Crabb, said last evening that he was very happy with the high standard attained by the male divers. Mr Crabb said that Lamb was due to get his act together and dived very well.

However, Mr Crabb said that he was a little disappointed with the women’s diving. The Auckland diver, Karen Munro, who was nominated but rejected by the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games selectors, has a further chance to impress in a Pacific nations competition in Hong Kong from July 8 to 13. Divers will have another chance to push for inclusion in the Games team in another trial on June 12, and Mr Crabb said that he and his fellow selectoors were duty bound to press fortaore nominations for the Games team based on present performances.
