Wool prices up

Prices at the combined Christchurch and Timaru wool sale yesterday improved to 2.5 per cent for most fleece wools compared with recent sales at Auckland and Dunedin. Christchurch wool auctions in the last three months have begun the upturns in the fluctuating wool maintaining the centre’s reputation for improving wool prices. But the market indicator

has moved within a range of 247 c to 272 c a kilogram at the seven Christchurch sales since late January and yesterday it was near the middle of this range at 257 c. Government supplementation of more than 20 per cent is still payable on all wool sold and no sustained improvement in wool prices for the 1982-83 season appears in prospect. Full report, page 17.
