Fencing titles
Canterbury's Peter Kell headed a strong showing by members of the New Zealand under-20 fencing team at the national under-20 championships in Christchurch at the week-end. Kell won the foil title and was runner-up in the- epee and sabre events, while his national men’s team-mates. Steven Martin (Auckland) and Sandy Grant-Tay-lor (Wellington) edged him out for the epee and sabre titles respectively. Another national representative. Sarah Goddard, of Wellington. won the women's foil championship. A pleasing aspect of the tournament for the New Zealand selector, Mr Keith Mann, was
that most of the finalists were aged 18 or younger. Results were.— Men's foil- Kell 1, Martin 2.
