Computer society’s next subject

Mrs Myra Harpham, until this month the director of the Commission for the Future, will address the next meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Computer Society. Her topic will be "Network New Zealand — Problems and Possibilities.” Last year the Commission for the Future published a set of discussion papers, called “Network New Zea? land,” which discussed the future of communications in this country. The Commission has now been disbanded.

In the report the Commission states that it is essential to concentrate not only on the technical aspects of the future of communications but also on the social options and impact that will accompany the use of future technologies. The Computer Society is hoping that the meeting will help its members appreciate the issues and opportunities involved. The meeting will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the New Zealand Institute of Management.
