Woolsheds, yards for field day

Everything you wanted, to know about Woolsbeds, covered yards and sheepyards will be covered in an extensive field day organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for May 27 in Mid-Canterbury. As well as being a good opportunity to see the latest in shed and yard design and construction on four properties, there will be commercial displays and expert speakers. The field day begins at 10 a.m. on the property of Mr P. Reddell, Chertsey, but commercial company staff will be on band from 9 a.m. to discuss wool presses in particular.

Mr Heddell is on the Sin-gletree-Chertsey Road which runs due south from Chertsoy towards Seafield. The property is just beyond the intersection of Taverners Road. On show will be a fivestand curved board woolshed built by Micanta Construction, which will also be providing morning tea. Among the speakers at that stop will be Mr R, Dunnick, the wool board’s

chief shearing instructor for the South Island. The next stop will be the property of Mr R. Boon, Killinchy, where a light lunch , will be provided by Fletcher Brownbuilt. At that stop Mr T. Wearne, an official of the Workers Union and a Rural Bank appraiser will speak. The field day will move to Mr D. Saunders’ woolshed and covered yards at Brook--stde where the speakers will be from Peter Stevens, Ltd, and then to Mr N. C. Greenwood’s new sheepyards at Ellesmere where Mr Lindsay Galloway, sheep and wool officer, M.A.F., Christchurch, will sum up the events of the day. Mr Galloway said the emphasis during the day will be on modular shed units which can be duplicated or subtracted. There will be a variety of handouts, including the Ag-link series on woo) sheds. He appealed to farmers to make up car loads from their districts to reduce the number of cars and improve the parking situation.
