PA Auckland Fleece wool at. Auckland yesterday was firm compared with the last sale at Wellington on April 30; better length second-shears were inclined in sellers’ favour; and shorter secondshears were very much in sellers' favour, according to the official report. The offering of 24,427 bales was 61 per cent adult secondshear, 19 per cent hogget second-shear,. 13 per cent short oddments, and the balance full-length fleece and lambs’ wool.

It was a particularly good Auckland offering with much better colour than normal, a greater weight of longer adult secondjshears. and plenty of style showing.

Competition was mainly from New Zealand scourers, and Eastern Europe, with good support from Japan and the Far East. The adjusted weighted average sale price was 259.84 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 23.2 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight on Wednesday to midnight on May 20.
