Welfare benefits by direct credit

All benefits and pensions except National Superannuation will be paid by direct credit from July 1 and National Superannuation from September 1. The Minister of Social Welfare (Mr Young) said
beneficiaries not already using direct credit should visit their Social Welfare office to make arrangements and those without a bank or Post Office account should open one as soon as possible. The change should save the department $lO million in a full financial year, Mr Young said, because benefits could not be lost or stolen under a direct credit system.
