Lamb for Iran deal near

PA ‘ Wellington The Meat Board expects to close a deal involving the lucrative Iran lamb market without .haying to barter over oil.

■ The board’s deputy chairman. Mr Norman Mcßae, said that the substantial improvement in the world oil market had- changed negotiating conditions for the contract and Iran no longer needed to link oil sales to product purchases. “We are now negotiating the contract as a normal trading arrangement,” said Mr Mcßae. 1

“While further delays in signing a contract concern

us, I am still confident that a sale will be made soon," he said.

Mr Mcßae said the situation had changed because of higher oil prices on the world’ spot market and substantially increased oil sales by the Iranian National Oil Company.
