Cost of project trebled

The cost of the Huntly power project has more than trebled in the last nine years. When first costed in 1973, construction of the project was estimated to cost $52,154 million. The most recent estimate, in 1981 dollars, is $163.552M. The Minister of Works and Development (Mr Quigley) gave these figures in reply to a question by the member of Parliament for Dunedin North, Mr S. J. Rodger. Mr Quigley said that the principal elements in the increased . costs were 576.154 M from inflation. $34.044M from design changes, and SI.2M increased overheads from the extended construction period.
