League dates clash resolved
The clash of commitments for the South Island rugby league team — which was scheduled to play important matches at both Brisbane and Huntly on May 19 — has quickly been resolved. A meeting of the South Island committee in Greymouth yesterday was’ informed by the president of
the New Zealand Rugby League (Mr R. G. McGregor) that South’s KB Cup fixture against Brisbane had been transferred to June 16. The change avoids any threat of a disruption to the KB Super League inter-dis-tricts competition in midMay. The tournament, held in conjunction with a
national coaching school, has South playing' Northern Districts (at Hamilton, May 16), Central Districts (at Huntly, May 19), and Auckland (at Auckland, May 23). The South selectors will, however, now face another, if lesser, dilemma. On the evening of June 16 the New Zealand side will be playing
the first game of its Australian tour, at Southport, which is within easy travelling distance of Brisbane. The South panel will need to liaise with the Kiwi coach, Ces Mountford, who has agreed to release as many South players as possible from New Zealand’s match against Gold Coast.
