QEII creche open

A new creche was opened yesterday at the Queen Elizabeth II Park for local families and users of the park’s facilities. The creche, designed by the Christchurch City Council’s architects’ division, cost about $BO,OOO to build and will replace the existing creche at the park. Opened in 1974, the original creche has proved to be

unsuitable. Lack of both space and an outdoor play area are just two of its disadvantages. The new creche can cater for up to 40 children at any one time. Children up to five years old are accepted. The supervisor of the creche, Mrs Margot Nottingham, is the only full-time worker, but another five helpers are available, de- ) pending on how many children are present. Children can be left at the creche for a maximum of four hours between 9.30 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday to Friday. An open morning will be held at the creche today, between 10 a.m. and noon.
