Bastion Point protest

A small group of people stood outside the Housing Corporation building in Cathedral Square for an hour yesterday lunchtime to protest about the Government’s plan to subdivide land at Bastion Point. They held up a big banner and distributed leaflets calling for the return of Bastion Point land to the NgatiWhatua Maori people.

In an open letter to the manager of the Housing Corporation, the regional organiser of HART, Ms Erin Baker, said that the joint working group on Bastion Point, of which HART was a member, had named May 7 as a national day of protest against the Government’s proposal to subdivide Bastion Point land for housing.
