Quay Princess deserves better luck today
From W. R. CARSTON Blenheim All it might need to bring about a “home town” victory in the Gold and Blue Quality Handicap at Blenheim today is for Quay Princess to receive a more favourable run in the first leg of the Marlborough Racing Club’s T.A.B. double than she did on the first day. Quay Princess was one of the runners in Saturday’s Radio Marlborough Classic which struck more than her share of traffic problems. If luck of the running does not go against her again today there will be strong hopes that she will break through
for her first victory on her present campaign. Quay Princess raised hopes of another victory ciose at hand at Nelson last month - when she chased Glenmana home on the second day of that meeting. The Waterlea-trained mare is only one of two southerners in today’s lineup. The other is the Riccar-ton-trained Aramis whose recent form leaves much to be desired. With Sharebroker on the list of doubtful starters — Bill Skelton has accepted the mount of Fraxy — and firstday form well disclosed it seems likely that Quay Prin-
cess’s strongest rival might be one of the newcomers to the meeting. Buckcharmer, from Maurice Campbell's . Awapuni stable, is one sure to be on the short list of fancies. The fact that Jim Cassidy will ride him is bound to brighten his i chance. This Bucaroon five-year-old’s recent record in the lower grades has been marked by consistency and includes two winning runs. With all the major placegetters in the Radio Marlborough Classic out of the way Ida, which was fifth, must come into reckoning. If first day form proves of most value in the second leg,
the Morwenstow- Handicap, the issue should be between Shilling and Decor Doll. These two were the best behind Sovereign’s Will in a blanket finish to the corresponding event on Saturday. The well-performed Washdyke four-year-old, Flag Lieutenant, another of Jim Cassidy’s mounts, is a newcomer which will come in for plenty of attention. Chapel’s Gift and Royonah should be the best of the others although bold runs from Extra Glance or Zudini would not come as a surprise.
