Clipper Cup team

PA Auckland Trial points were disregarded in the naming of two teams to represent New Zealand at the Clipper Cup off-shore yachting series sailed out of Honolulu in August. The selectors took the top six yachts on trial form and shuffled them up into a big and small boat team. The Royal Akarana Yacht Club commodore. Gill Hedges, said after the selection there would be no A or B squad: "The teams will be known as red and green.”

The red team consists of the 51ft Anticipation (Don Brown) and two 45-footers, Bad Habits (Clyde Colson) and Solara (Macdonald Brothers). Anticipation was fifth in the trials. Bad Habits, fourth and Solara first equal. The green team comprises three yachts in the 39ft range, the sixth-placed trialist Defiance (Kevin Lidgard). Dictator (Clive North and Rod Coleman) which was first equal and the thirdplaced Southern Raider (John Stephenson).
