Rowing cox named

PA Wellington Andrew Hay, aged 18. of the North Shore Rowing Club has been named cox of the New Zealand eight for the World. Championships at Lucerne, Switzerland, in August, the Rowing Association’s president, Mr Tay Wilson, announced yesterday. Hay was chosen after colts trials at Wanganui last weekend, heading off three other contenders.

He will join the New Zealand World Championship squad for the first time this week-end when the eight rows, non-competitively, at the regatta christening the South Island’s new international championship course at Lake Ruataniwha outside Twizel. The national eight goes into training camp at Lake Karapiro next month.
