NU 82/2: OVERSEER HEAVY PLANT APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from suitably qualified diesel mechanics to take charge of the heavy plant workshop under the direction of the Mechanical Superintendent within the Public Works Department organisation having a total works staff of 250. SALARY AND ALLOWANCE: 240.104 $18397-$19,517 plus location allowance of $10,398 per annum married or $6655 per annum single. A child allowance of $865 per annum is granted - for each dependent child. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: The preferred qualification is advance trade certificate in automotive diesel. A proven trade ability with staff control and job organisation abilities is essential. DUTIES: / The Overseer is responsible to the Mechanical Superintendent under the Director of Works for the control and efficient management and operation of the Heavy Plant workshop which service equinment ranging from a DBK and Kato 30 ton crane through a tractor fleet to small diesel engines. Duties include planning and programming of work, supervision, reporting of equipment and completed work, preparing estimates of costing time with control of financial expenditure. Advising and assisting with the training of apprentices and that of the overseer, through leading hand to tradesmen and be prepared to work on the tools as and when required. GENERAL: The term of service is 2 to 3 years for a married appointee and 2 years for a single person with return fares being paid subject to satisfactory completion of the contract with and end of term furlough granted of 2u> days for each month of service. Establishment and transfer grants are payable. Because of the isolation of Niue and the wide scope of the Public Works Department officers may be called on to carry out work not associated with their trade and they should be versatile and adaptable.
