Financial help available from banks and agents
By
Mr D. G. REYNOLDS,
regional advisory officer, Christchurch, M.A.F.
Kecent rams are certainly going to help the Winter feed position. Most farms though will still be faced with additional expenditure to bring stock through the winter. This expense is coming on top of a season which has already been less profitable than expected. The prospects for next
year have already been diminished by the certainty of a lower lambing percentage and poorer yields of wool. All this adds up to a requirement for additional seasonal finance. Banks and stock and station agents, the traditional source of such money are keen to help, but face their problems also when sums additional to normal are required. Similarly, the Rural Banking and Finance Corporation are there to help, but need a “lead in” time to assist. Finance can be made available to best advantage if you see your financier now and make your requests known. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Maclntyre) on his recent visit to Canterbury,
assured farmers that the resources of the Rural Bank were available to tide them over this difficult time. It is important that capital stock be maintained for future profitability — so this is a plea for you not only to plan the feeding of stock, but also to plan your financing. Both should be done now.
