Devaluation variances
Parliamentary reporter The effective devaluation of the New Zealand dollar over the last five years against the currencies of some of New Zealand’s major trading partners and the Swiss franc ranges from 16 per cent to 38 per cent. These figures were given by the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) in reply to a Parliamentary question by the member for Dunedin North, Mr S. J. Rodgers. Mr Muldoon said that during the five years from April
7, 1977, to April 7, 1982, the change in value of the New . Zealand dollar had been a 16.47 per cent devaluation against the Australian dollar. Against the German mark there had been a 20.09 per cent devaluation. A 20.94 per cent devaluation was recorded against the United States dollar, a 20.08 per cent devaluation against the United Kingdom pound, a 28.15 per cent devaluation against the Japanese yen, and a 38.72 per cent devaluation against the Swiss franc.
