New nursing award
A national award of honour for persons who have given outstanding service to the nursing profession would be instituted by the Nurses' Association, its annual conference has agreed in Christchurch. To be named the New Zealand Nurses’ Association Award of Honour, it will be administered by the association. Nominations will be called for annually from branches; and the national executive will make the final selection. The award may be made either before or after retirement. and will be in recognition of either significant and innovative contributions' to health care in New Zealand; activities nationally or internationally which increase the status and public recognition of the nursing profession in New Zealand; a personal, positive impact on the nurs-
ing profession in New Zealand, or promotion of the Nurses’ Association's work. The recipient of the award
will receive a written citation, a replica of the Nurses' Association badge in gold, plus the entering of his or her name on a roll of honour at the association’s head office. At the conference, which is being attended by more than 300 nurses, the appointment of Miss Sue Burrell, of Paraparaumu, as the association’s new president was also announced. Other officers announced included Miss Roseann Englefield, of Nelson, as South Island vice-president; Mr Jim Glover, of Wellington, Wellington area vice-presi-dent; Mr Chris Young,. of Auckland, North Island national executive member; Mrs Lorraine Sivyer, of Lower Hutt, Wellington area member; and Miss Brenda Wilson, of Christchurch, South Island ai;ea member.
