Racing & trotting Chimbu in form for Cup

N.Z.P.A. staff correspondent Sydney The Auckland Cup winner, Chimbu, turned in a solid workout yesterday in a final preparation for tomorrow's $150,000 Sydney Cup (3200 m His trainer, Allan Jones, said both Chimbu and his other Cup entry, Azawary, worked well but he was especially pleased with the way Chimbu went. Chimbu. which will be ridden by the. New Zealand jockey Phillip Aiderman. is second favourite for the Cup in early markets. He ran 2000 m with Azawary in good going at Warwick Farm. They reached lmin 41s, for the 1600 m and 35s for the last 300 m with Chimbu finishing ahead of Azawary. Jones has released Ron Quinton to ride Our Planet in the

Cup and has now booked Nigel Tiley for Azawary. The Colin Jillings trained mare, Rama, worked at Rosehill and had an easier gallop going over 1600 m in lmin 57.75. Other Cup entries at Rosehill included the favourite, Allez Bijou (Noble Bi-jour-Time Lass), which ran the 1600 m in lmin 53.55. Allez Bijou, which was second to Prince Majestic in the weight-for-age Tancred Stakes (2400 m and then in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000 m in his last starts, is top weight with 55.5 kg in the Cup and will be ridden by the experienced Melbourne jockey, Roy Higgins. The veteran, Magistrate, coming up to his eleventh birthday and with two Perth Cup wins under his belt will

miss the Sydney Cup due to a nagging leg injury. Another shock withdrawal yesterday, was the classy filly Rose of Kingston. She was injured when she was hit by a motorbike yesterday morning as she crossed the road on her way to the track. At Randwick the New Zealand bred four-year-old Zamazaan mare, World Vision, turned in what the trainer, Bart Cummings, described as a winning gallop. She easily beat a Cup rival, the dour New Zealand stayer, Sean's Pride, over 2000 m on the good course proper. __
