Charlesworth wins bowls

A Papanui team skippered by Jim Charlesworth, and including Henry Taylor, Jack Lang and Alan Peart, won the annual Pegasus bowls tournament at the week-end. the last major tournament of the season. The Papanui entry was one of three teams, of the 16 qualifiers from Saturday, to win all their four games at South Brighton yesterday. And in the play-off Charlesworths team put seven bowls within the metre measure to clearly beat

Wally Wilkinson (Beckenham), second, and Frank Carter (Fendalton), third. Wilkinson, who was seeking his third win in the event in. five years, had Denis O'Callaghan. Bob Tinson and Kevin McMenamin as his partners, while Carter's team was John Pugh, who skipped, Vic Empson and Eric Bell. The tournament, which was sponsored by Lion Breweries, attracted 64 entries, the non-qualifiers competing yesterday in plate events on three other greens.
