N.Z. play for Turner?
By
RAY CAIRNS
While the coming county cricket season in England will “probably” be the last for Glenn Turner, be may be seen playing again in the southern hemisphere. As is his custom, Turner will make no decision on continuing in county cricket until a short time before the new season. He has only oneyear contracts with Wor-
cestersbire. at his own insist- ’ ence, and generally comes to I terms with the county in t about February. That will be : the case again next year, J said Turner, although he has given notice that this season ’ appears likely to be his last, i A dislike for playing ■ cricket all-year-round has been the overwhelming fac- • tor in Turner’s having played • only one New Zealand season
in the last five, but that could change. “Nothing is certain yet, but I am very interested in the one-day series New Zealand has in Australia,” said Turner. “I haven’t played this night cricket at ail, and one-day cricket is what most appeals to me.” On continuing in first-class cricket, Turner was less forthcoming. It is no secret
that he — and others — are disenchanted with the control and organisation of Otago cricket, and Turner does not have an easy relationship with the administration. He has the respect of the players, however, and if there were changes in the southern province, Turner could again feature in its playing scheme of things.
