Decibel has run her last race
Special correspondent Auckland Decibel, one of the better stayers of the- season, had her last race when she finished unplaced in the Opunake Cup at Hawera last week. A six-year-old. by Decies from Nancy Bell, she has been retired with a view to her going to stud next spring. Decibel won only two of her 15 races last season but included in her worth-while minor placings a second in the Auckland Cup. fourth in the Avondale Cup and fourth in the Waikato Cup. Trained by Brian Deacon. Decibel pushed her stake earnings past $50,000 with her last win, in the Alison Stakes at Ellerslie in November. A bay, sh’e was one of three yearlings Deacon
bought for clients at the Trentham sales of 1977 and. at $20,000. proved a worthwhile buy for her Waverley owners. 'Messrs John and Arthur Dickie. Her stake earnings would have been more except for an accident she suffered. She broke a splint bone and the operation required to remedy the injury kept her out of action all through her three-year-old season. Also lost to the Deacon stable at Takanini are three other mares. Friponette, Young Lisa and Bonny Mede, all booked for the stud. Friponette's retirement from racing was compelled when she broke a pedal bone while working last Tuesday.
