N.Z. market closes firmer

The New Zealand sharemarket ended the week on a firm note in moderately active trading yesterday. The N.Z.U.C. industrial index gained 5.44 points to close at 687.96,the first time the index has improved since March 9. Lane Walker Rudkin rose 5c to 145 c after an excellent profit report, but Brierley Investments remained steady ahead of its half-yearly announcement. South Island freezing companies were mixed. Canterbury Frozen Meat lost 15c and Waitaki N.Z. Refrigerating firmed 10c. Bridgevale Mining rose 2c to 72c after an optimistic annual report.
