Brierley ahead 44 p.c.
Brierley Investments Ltd. increased its unaudited group net profit 44.1 per cent to $4,237,000 in the six months to December 31, the directors announced yesterday. The result included equity profits from associated companies down 29.1 per cent to $644,000. The directors said that the rate of profit increase would not be maintained for the full year because the final six months of the last financial year had been exceptionally good, and this trend was unlikely to be repeated to the same extent this year. The profit was after providing $430,000 less for tax at $2,155,000, $238,000 less -for depreciation at $1,544,000 but $1,898,000 more for interest at $4,626,000. The interim dividend has been increased from 4c to 4.5 c a share (9 per cent) payable tax-free on June 4. The dividend requires $1,236,000, but the shares arising from the recent one-for-three bonus issue do not qualify for the payout.
