Property market

An old cottage at 21 Hurley Street in the Avon Loop was sold at auction on Thursday for $30,000. The property has a GV (1979) of $9,500. It consists of a three-bedroomed. recently re-decorated house with a sun-room, which is on a 405 sq m section with a mature garden. The auction attracted considerable interest in the neighbourhood and was attended by more than 40 people—three serious bidders and the rest neighbours. The auctioneer. Mr J. Packard, of Beasley. Packard and Chamberlain. Ltd. said that the price fetched was good considering the size and age of the cottage. Bid-

ding started at $25,000. One factor contributing to the value of the property is that it is in an urban renewal area which is being upgraded. It was advertised as "another Merivale in the making" by the auctioneers. However, the house next door at 23 Hurley Street, which was auctione'ed at the same time but under a separate title, did not fetch the reserve price and was passed in at $17,500.
