Hospital pay strike?

PA Wellington Notice of a 24-hour strike by 15,000 hospital domestic staff will be withdrawn only when a firm date has been set for talks with the Hospital Boards’ Association, said a Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union spokesman yesterday. Mr Jeff Rowe, representing the Wellington branch of the union, said reports from Auckland that

the threatened stoppage had been postponed were not correct. “We have a meeting with the employers set down tentatively for a week today. That relies on the conciliator being available. Providing that is confirmed then the notice of strike action will be withdrawn,” said Mr Rowe. He said 14 days notice of a national stoppage had been given on Wednesday. The dispute is over pay rates.
