Crane to be moved
Cargo loading from Lyttelton s No. 7 West wharf will be made easier from today when an extra crane is shifted there. In the past the three cranes there have proved inadequate so the Lyttelton Harbour Board has decided to move a crane from No. 2 East wharf. This crane will be replaced by one which was not needed at the Gladstone Pier, thus keeping a full complement of six cranes on No. 2 wharf. With the arrival of the extra crane at No. 7 wharf there will now be four cranes there. This will mean more efficient loading of ships. The Harbour Board’s floating crane Rapaki has the job of shifting the wharf crane. To do this the crane will be dismantled into two parts and the Rapaki will ship these to No. 7 wharf separately. The Rapaki will then berth alongside the wharf and will reassemble and remount the crane from there. ARRIVALS Jervis Bay (6 a.m.), 26,876, Wellington (P and O). DEPARTURES Nil.
