Shipping news Congestion at oil wharf
Lyttelton’s oil wharf has been congested for the last two days, for the second time in three weeks. The tanker Amokura, from Marsden Point, had to wait at anchor for a day because another tanker, the Messiniaki Idea, was discharging at the wharf. The Anco Entente, a French chemical tanker, then had to delay her arrival time to allow the Amokura time to discharge. The Messiniaki Idea, a Greek tanker, discharged premium gasoline and jet fuel on Monday and Tuesday. She sailed for Australia on Tuesday evening. The Amokura then discharged eight million litres of premium gasoline on Tuesday evening, and sailed for Bluff at 5 a.m. yester- ■ day. The Anco Entente spent eight hours at port yesterday discharging methanol and dicityl phthalate, a chemical used to make plastic. She sailed for Wellington at 3 p.m. The oil wharf was also congested during the last week-end of February when three oil tankers — the Erne, Ficus and Osco Sierra — were booked to use it. The. Ficus, which had a draught of 11.28 m, the deepest the harbour can take had to wait at anchor while the Osco Sierra unloaded. ARRIVALS Anco Entente (6 a.m.) 15,163, Houston (P and 0).
