Seminar on leadership skills

A seminar teaching youthleadership skills will be held at the Christchurch Teachers’’ College on March 20. Membership ?of .- these?.. groupS’Js restricted by a shortage of leaders and there are waiting lists of children wanting to join. While the council would like to see more children involved in youth groups, the convener, Mrs Judith Hay, said that it would be silly to put the cart before the horse.

The first priority was to get more leaders. The seminar is part of the council’s publicity programme to attract ’more adult members. The ajm of the workshops will be to increase leadership abilities and confidence. The tutor, Mr Stan'Jelley, of the Christchurch Teachers’ College, will teach communication and organisational skills. Mrs Hay said that there were 100 places in the course and that applications were still welcome. If the number of applications exceeded the quota, another seminarwould be organised .to cater for the demand.
