Unions seek bans on Mururoa N-tests
NZPA Melbourne Australian and Ne.w Zealand trade unions will seek the support of their Governments in 'arranging talks with the French Government on nuclear testing in the Pacific. .„>. . Pacific trade unions are also considering putting wide-ranging trade bans on France later this year over continuing nuclear tests at Mururoa Atoll. This was announced after the annual meeting at Melbourne of the AustralianNew Zealand Trade Union Co-ordinating Council. The Australian Council of
Trade Unions’ president, Mr Clifford Dolan, said a continuation of the tests could lead to industrial action against French goods by union bodies affiliated with the Pacific Trade Union Forum.
Two congresses of Forum member countries will be held in April and September to discuss ways of fighting nuclear testing.
