Table tennis test

A two-man New Zealand table tennis team will meet its Australian counterpart at the Upper Hutt Town Hall on April 3 in a qualifying match for the Norwich Union World Cup. The winner will be Oceania's representative at the World Cup 111 tournament to be held 1 later this year in either Canada or Brazil.

New Zealand has named its first and second-ranked men's singles players. James Morris (Northland)'and Barry Griffiths (Auckland), respectively, for the contest, and they will meet Paul Pinkewich and Bob Tuckett. of Australia.

Pinkewich. of Sydney, is the current Oceania champion and a veteran of more than 100 appearances for Australia, while Tuckett. of Melbourne, ranked No 2 for his country, is also an experienced international. The Australians will be favoured to win but Griffiths, aged 17. could prove a surprise package. The promising teenager will be looking to show what he has . learned in the past eight months

while on a New Zealand Sports Foundation-sponsored stay in Sweden, where he was a member of the champion Falkenberg club.
