Two charges of causing bodily harm
A builder facing two charges of causing grievous bodily harm was remanded to March 22 without plea when he appeared before Judge Fogarty in the District Court yesterday. Richard Raymond Thomson, aged 29, (Mr P. J. Egden) is charged with causing grievous bodily harm by injuring Jarmie Kihi Phillips and Mark Leonard Wilson on March 13. The charges relate to an alleged stabbing incident at Redcliffs. Bail was opposed by’ Sergeant G. G. Jones who said one of the complainants, Phillips, was still in hospital with stab wounds. Mr Egden said both alleged offences would be “strenuously” denied. Thomson was granted bail of $2OOO. ■ ASSAULT CHARGE Vivian Stephen White, aged 27, unemployed, was remanded in custody without plea to March 18 on a charge of assault with intent to injure. It is alleged he assaulted William James Wyber on March 14. Sergeant Jones opposed bail. He said the complainant had suffered injuries requiring hospital treatment. DEPOSITIONS A man charged with two burglaries elected trial bv jury. Wayne Sherlock, aged 20, unemployed, (Mr D. H. Stringer) is alleged to have burgled a house in Rossall Street between January 13 and 16, and another in Crichton Terrace between January 17 and 20. •
He was remanded on bail to April 29 for the taking of depositions. DRUG CHARGES A man charged with possessing lysergide (LSD) for the purpose of supply was remanded on bail to April 30 for the taking of depositions. Howard Alder Common, aged 27, a joiner, (Ms E. Riddiford) was also remanded to April 24 for a defended hearing on a charge of possessing cannabis plant' for sale or supply. The two offences are alleged to have taken place on March 5. FINE A sickness beneficiary earlier convicted of stealing a bag containing $2OOO from a garage floor safe was fined $l5O .when he appeared for sentence. In addition Wayne Malcolm Kenny, aged 21, (Mr G. H. Nation) was put on probation for 18 months, a special condition being that he undergo such medical treatment or counselling as might be directed. i Kenny had admitted stealing the bag from a garage while the vehicle he was in had stopped for oil. After being discovered by the garage attendant with the bag in his possession, Kenny had handed it over and had left. Mr Nation said the offence was the result of; impulse. There was no suggestion of premeditation on the part of the defendant. Kenny, he submitted, was seriously and emotionally disturbed.
