Actress answers critics
PA •' Wellington The television personality. Angela D'Audney. cannot understand the fuss about her appearing topless in a television play screened on Sunday evening. Television New Zealand in Wellington had about 20 complaints yesterday about the Keith . Aberdein play, “The Venus Touch,’’ about a sexologist with problems in his marriage to - the character played by Miss D’Audney. '< ' - • Her topless appearance in the- play was described as “appalling and disgusting” and. some people said they had “lost fajth in newsreaders.”. • Speaking from Auckland last evening, Miss D’Audney said she did not regret acting in the play but. felt a little sad that people could not accept her appearance as an actress performing. , “I wouldn’t have appeared nude if I hadn’t thought it essential to the play,” she said. “The woman I was playing was trying to get the attention of her disinterested husband. She wouldn’t have worn a long winceyette nightdress to do that.”
