The owner of the Gables Restaurant, Mr Brian Hunter, was born in Rangiora and now plans to move back to the town. He has spent five years and a half running a seven-day dairy in Christchurch and before that worked in a hotel. All the New Zealand landscape paintings that decorate the restaurant have been painted by Mr Hunter, who is self-taught.
