Gold Star to Cook
Reg Cook, of Auckland, easily won the ANZ Bank national Gold Star hill-climb title on Banks Peninsula at the week-end. Cook, driving the Sanyo Datsun Sunny that he races in Shellsport circuit competition, surprised the rally drivers by winning the gravel section on Pigeon Bay Road on Saturday, and he completed the clean sweep by taking the sealed-road section on nearby Summit Road yesterday. Wayne Sendall (Nelson) took second place in the gravel section on Saturday before crashing into a bank on his final run and smashing
his little Terrapin’s rear suspension — he was unable to fix the damage on Saturday evening and could not compete in the sealed section yesterday. ' The reigning champion Paul Adams (Auckland, Toyota Starlet 1300) and James Shand (Fairlie, Escort 1600) shared second over all. Results.— Gravel section: Cook 1. Sendall 2, Shand 3.
