Burnside qualifies
Burnside will meet Albion in the final of the senior women’s softball. champion-of-champion series at Queen Elizabeth n Park on Sunday. . The Bumside team qualified for the second place in the final by beating United, 6-2, on Saturday. It started slowly and United took the initial lead with two runs in the third innings after a three-bagger by Charmaine Lee. Bumside finally got its batting machine going in the fourth innings through a three-run homer by the consistent Ranui Hapi. Her example was followed and
three further runs were added in the same innings. Fielding was kept very tight in the last three innings and no further runs were added. Albion, which was busy regaining the title of national champion up in Hamilton, had already qualified for the final by beating Bumside the previous Saturday. In another Senior. A game Papanui beat Albion B, 8-3, although that score was not indicative of the general run of play. Albion’s pitcher, Maureen Dunn, contained the batters well and the scores were level until the fifth
innings. However, outfield errors and enors on first base allowed Papanui to dominate from then on. In senior B games Burnside B beat Kereru, 9-7, although the team struck problems with Kereru’s pitcher, H. Morris, and Aorangi > beat Western Suburbs B. 11-9. Other results:— Senior C.—Albion D 27. Burnside C 5; Woolston 10, Air New Zealand 2. Senior D.—Deanes 16. Cosmos 10; Woolston D 20, Papanui CIO. Senior E.—Richmond 15, Wheke 7. Senior G.-Lyttelton 19, United E 18; Woolston 43, Richmond B 12; Parklands 16, Ellesmere 13.
