‘Redundancy’ agreement
PA Hamilton Staff laid off at New Zealand Aerospace Industries. Lid. will receive compensation in return for their trade unions - promising to complete the company's CT4 Airtrainer contract by June 5. according to a union spokesman. Agreement on the compensation was reached after talks between Aerospace Industries’ receiver. Mr John Gaukrodger. and representatives of employers, the Clerical Workers’ and the Engineers’ Unions. The industrial officer of the Clerical Workers’ Union, Mr Peter Murphy, said that 23 of the company’s staff, who would leave next week, would get compensation. It was not being called a redundancy payment because that was outside the Companies Act. Three other union members who had also been laid off had already left voluntarily, A pool of money had been made available to the staff who had been laid off and those who would leave next week vtould get a high per-
centage of their entitlement. The unions would wait two or three months to see if any other member of the staff needed money from the pool. It is believed that the pool contains almost $150,000. "In return, we had to give a guarantee that we would finish the CT4s by June 5 and we have done so." Mr
Murphy said. "Under the circumstances, it was the best we could achieve but to me the most important thing is that it has proved there is room to negotiate in receivership situations." Mr Gaukrodger said that an agreement had been reached satisfactory to both parties but that he was not prepared to discuss details.
