The purpose of the work is to evaulate the performance of different forms of fertilisers and develop methods for deriving fertiliser requirements for pasture maintenance. The work will involve field and glasshouse trials, and associated laboratory studies of chemical processes in the soil. TRADES CERTIFICATION BOARD is a statutory body responsible for the examination annd certification of persons wishing to practise in the trades. The Board wishes to appoint a Secretary and Chief Executive to replace Mr F. P. Torrance who is retiring after 15 years service. The Secretary is an employee of the Board whose salary and conditions of employment are determined by the Board. In addition to servicing the Board, the Secretary is responsible for the efficient management of a busy office which provides for the examination and certification of persons practising about 90 trades throughout New Zealand. The principal requirements will be relevant management experience and the proven ability to administer a system of exacting routines which include the appointment and servicing of examiners, moderators and Prescription Committees. The Secretary controls the financial affairs of the Board who in 1981 met expenditure in excess of §1 million derived principally from examination fees. The work of the Secretary generates a wide range of contacts with the industrial, commerical, agricultural and educational communities and the Board wishes to appoint a person skilled in the establishment of good working relationships who will be quick to engender trust and co-operation. A knowledge of trades training or education and related activities would be an advantage. Commmencing salary will be in the range $24,739 to $30,977.
