Basketball trials
The South Island’s top men's basketball players, senior and junior will vie for places in their respective final trials at Cowles Stadium this week-end. There were 22 senior registrations and 26 juniors registrations earlier this week for the trials which will take the form of a clinic. The national coaches at both levels will select players for final trials after four sessions at the stadium, this evening, tomorrow and Sunday. k Canterbury’s John Hill and Andy Bennett both national representatives, have registered but it is uncertain •whether John “Dutchie” Rademakers and .Bert..Knops will be available for the national team this year. The players will be put through an intensive basketball clinic in an effort to test their ability for international competition. The junior men’s side will travel to Australia for a world qualifying series against that country, and the senior men’s side will appear at the William Jones Tournament in-Taiwan arid then in a tournament in Korea.
