Cuts hit journalists
PA Wellington The pruning by the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) of housekeeping costs at the Beehive reached journalists yesterday, with the edict that they will have to pay the rentals for telephone equipment provided in the Press Gallery. It would save, about $4750 in rentals, Mr Muldoon said. The new rule follows up the withdrawal of a Parliamentary messenger who organised mail and other deliveries for the Press Gallery when the House sits. Toll bars will also be introduced to some telephones, including those used by the Press Gallery.
