The last of five old kauri ventilators is lifted off the roof at the northern end of the old Normal School in Christchurch yesterday. Balanced on the apex of the roof, left, is Mr Nol van Vuuren, a foreman carpenter. In an apparently more secure position is Mr Norman Adcock, a sub-contractor. The ventilators will be restored and replaced, with spires added, as part of the restoration and conversion into flats of the nineteenth century stone building.
